Originating from the pragmatic intelligence of the craftsman-creator, with a passion for hand-woven bags traditionally made from vegetable fibres and used as practical carry bags in indigenous communities, Dragon Diffusion bags are now found worldwide.
Drawing inspiration from diverse sources, including the South Pacific Islands, New Zealand tribal kit bags, Japanese bamboo basketry, and the refined wicker paniers and baskets from France and the UK, Dragon Diffusion transposes these basketry techniques into the craft of leather weaving. Evidence suggests that the first signs of woven leather originated in the coastal areas of the Balkans, particularly Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, and Montenegro. In the Ilarian culture of Dalmatia, there was a trade in woven leather sandals from Pharos (Stari Grad) on Hvar Island with Greek traders.
Hand-woven leather shoes were produced in Spain, France, and Italy from the 1960s until the 1980s. Dragon Diffusion's unique technique involves colouring undyed crust leather straps with natural vegetable dyes. Once the leather laces are prepared for weaving, skilled artisans use only their hands to craft the bags. This meticulous process gives the products a distinctive nature and feel. Over time and with use, the bags develop a special patina, enhancing the look and feel of these handcrafted pieces.
