Here at The Dressing Room we want to help you care for the beautiful pieces you buy from us, so we have compiled a few handy tips to keep your favourite pieces looking like new for longer! Always follow the instructions on the garments care label and use these as helpful suggestions.
DENIM
- Don’t wash your denim too often, premium denim is designed to keep it’s shape.
- You can either hand wash, machine cool wash at 30 degrees or have your jeans dry cleaned, just remember to wash them inside out with similar colours.
- Dark denim can be heavily dyed so please be careful of light-coloured clothing, accessories and upholstery, to help with this initially wash with a tablespoon of salt to help set the dye and use Steamery’s Dark & Denim detergent.
- Coated denim should not be washed, dry clean or a handy tip is to fold them up in a bag, and pop them in the freezer for an hour, as this will kill any bacteria. Marks on the denim can be wiped away.
- Air dry your jeans & avoid heat when drying your jeans, so no radiators or heated airers. Heat over time breaks the elastic fibres in your jeans making them lose their shape.
KNITWEAR
- Follow the care label on the garment, as cashmere is usually dry clean only. If allowed, hand wash your knitwear using a wool detergent, using either Clothes Doctor No3 Eco Wash or Steamery’s Delicate Wash.
- Do not wring out your knitwear as this can misshape it.
- Dry flat to avoid stretching the fibres.
- It is normal for knitwear to pill over time, gently use a fabric shaver like the Steamery Pilo Shaver to remove bobbles or our Clothes Doctor No20 Beechwood Cashmere Comb. People ask what is the difference between the Pilo 1 and Pilo 2 shaver, the answer is that the Pilo No. 2 shaver has twice as many razor blades and a larger shaving area. Making the shaver more efficient and easier to clean.
SILK & COTTON CARE
- All delicate silk should be hand washed with silk detergent (try Clothes Doctor No4 Eco Wash or Steamery Delicate Wash) cool wash, no higher than 30 degrees or dry cleaned.
- We suggest washing our silk blend t-shirts and cotton t-shirts in a net bag or pillow case to avoid snagging the fabric.
- Lay flat to dry but do not stretch out the t-shirt when damp as it will lose its shape.
- Keep your clothes feel fresh with our Steamery Cirrus steamers & Distilled Steam Water, as well as Clothes Doctor Clothing Spritz.
JEWELLERY
- Avoid perfume, lotions and water when wearing plated jewellery, as this can wear away the plating. Best to store your jewellery in it’s packaging and to be cleaned with a soft jewellery cloth.
FOOTWEAR
- We recommend to put a half rubber sole on any leather soled shoes / boots to avoid slipping and to help your footwear last longer, this can be completed at any local cobblers.
- For suede or light-coloured leathers, we suggest spraying with a leather protector. Try using our Clothes Doctor Leather Care Kit.
DRY CLEAN ITEMS
- Get a crisp pressed finish, reduce smells, and kill bacteria by taking care of your pieces with Steamery’s Cirrus steamer & bottled Steam water (distilled water to help avoid descaling appliances), along with Steamery’s Fabric spray for a quick & easy freshen up and longevity for the pieces in your wardrobe.
STANDARD 30C WASH
- Look after your clothes and keep them smelling fresher for longer with our Clothes Doctor laundry detergent and conditioner and our Steamery Hypoallergenic detergent which is fragrance free for those with sensitive skin.
