Our Guide to Event Dressing
Ensure you’re the best dressed guest with our guide to Event Dressing. With Weddings, Races and Black Tie Events on the horizon for the Summer- here at The Dressing Room, we have a plethora of brands, shapes, colours and styles to ensure you are looking and feeling your best on those extra special occasions. Our team of expert stylists have put together this useful guide to help with any up-coming special event you have in the diary.
Black Tie Events:
One of the main questions we get asked is ‘What dress to wear for a black tie event?’ And ‘what is a black tie dress code’. This is one of the most formal dressing occasions most of us encounter and can leave us feeling a little intimidated but it needn't- think full length, glamour and refinement as your starting point. Maxi length jewel toned dresses in tactile silks and satins always convey a feeling of chic and luxuriousness and you can never go wrong with a long black evening dress. Scandinavian brand Dea Kudibal always deliver with black tie dressing, with form fitting silhouettes and premium fabrics, this is the brand to go to for black tie event dresses.
Ascot/Races:
Each Race enclosure will tend to have a slightly different dress code but as a general rule- strapless and halter-neck style tops and dresses are not permitted. There is nothing that conveys British Summertime more than canapés and champagne and a day at the Races. Now would be the perfect occasion to support our amazing British brands such as Sirens and Mercy Delta- both offering colourful, unique dresses for the races (all sleeved).
Wedding:
We absolutely love styling our customers for wedding guest outfits as the options are endless. For a Spring wedding guest dress- Choose soft, feminine pastels and for a Summer wedding guest dress- keep it bold and bright. Floral weddings guest dresses are always favoured and new brand Queens of Archive nail this brief with their array of floral designs ranging from small and ditsy to show-stopping full blooms. And if you’re not a dress person? Not to worry- a trouser and blazer or blouse co-ord is equally as stunning; Stine Goya is your go to for occasion wear suiting options with flattering jacket or top and trouser sets in both printed and non printed options. Halebob is a much loved brand for Mother of The Bride dresses with intricate patterns and designs and a real premium aesthetic.
Summer Garden Party:
Keep it elegant with a dash of Boho for your upcoming Summer Garden Parties with French brands Ba&Sh and Valerie Khalfon. Ba&Sh are famed for their chic yet boho designs and their pieces are ideal for any occasions that aren’t super formal but still require you to look put together. They have some beautiful printed dress and co-ord options all in breathable lightweight fabrics, ensuring you keep looking and feeling cool even on the hottest of days. Valerie Khalfon is new to The Dressing Room for the Spring/Summer season and have gorgeous crocheted and guipure dresses, ideal for Summer Garden Parties.
Shapewear:
Depending on your style of dress/outfit- Shapewear can be the foundation; ensuring your form and silhouette is correct for your outfit. We have a great selection of shapewear from Commando that includes bodysuits, slip dresses, control brief and control shorts. The right shapewear really can transform your look and give you that extra sprinkle of confidence knowing that you look your absolute best.
Shoes and Accessories:
The finishing touches to elevate your outfit- shoes and accessories really can take your dress to the next level. Day Et and Aleo are perfect for smaller bag options and we have amazing heeled sandal options from Shoe The Bear and stylish heeled espadrilles from Spanish brand Castaner (perfect for Summer weddings abroad). Layer your jewellery from Anna Beck, a single necklace/bracelet looks great but this brand in particular looks best when layered as a cohesive look so don’t hold back on the jewellery front.
