How to Style & Accessorise your Hair like a Scandi

A key street style trend that myself and Charley couldn’t get enough of in Copenhagen was the way that Scandi girls are completing their look with simple, feminine hair accessories.  From bows of all sizes, flower hair ties and hair clips or simple hair claws, it was clear that a look wasn’t complete without adding a little something extra to your hair.  

So, we thought we’d give you a little masterclass on how to nail this look and asked a few hair experts for their opinion in how to achieve the perfect Scandi Girl hair. 

Let’s start with your hair colour and style. Scandi girls tend to go for a simple aesthetic, with healthy hair and natural, loose waves.  Use a sea salt spray to enhance your hair texture to give you that effortless scandi vibe.

We asked expert hair colourist, David Inman at George Northwood Salon in London to give us his opinion on how to achieve that perfect lived in scandi girl colour.  Renowned for delivering thoroughly natural looking colour, David is sought by London's most fashionable and influential (including Deryane) for modern colour which is as undetectable as you want it to be. 

"I would say the best way to create a scandi blonde is on someone who is naturally a blonde (base 7 and up) with lots of super fine lights that we know can guarantee a clean lift. I quite often will also lift the hairline to create that super light and bright hairline that looks like you’ve have had a summer in the sun. I will usually add in a slightly deeper beige root around the crown area to allow for the best grow out possible and clean and bright gloss through the mid lengths and ends to match the scandi vibe."

So now we have the colour and texture, how will we accessorise our look?  

Hair Claws: Adding a simple hair claw to the side of your style will give an instant update.  Choose from neutrals, animal print or a pop of colour.  You can layer mini hair claws to give more texture or use a small to medium size hair claw for more of a statement or to pull the top section of your hair away from your face. Larger Hair Claws are perfect for longer hair and are a great way to get that messy ‘lived in’, I just threw my hair up look!  How do you put in a hair claw? Ponytails: Go High or Go Low? Secure A low ponytail tied with a simple band for a go-to Scandi style. Keep it loose and relaxed, rather than tight and polished.

For a slightly more polished look, go for a high ponytail, but keep it simple with minimal volume and a sleek finish and secure with a simple hair tie. For a printed more dramatic scrunchie, we love Ganni. For a more toned down look, opt for a KKNEKKI!
