What does International Women's Day mean to you?
I see IWD as an opportunity to celebrate the amazing achievements of women in all walks of life. It's a feel good day that prompts us to recognise who we are and those women around us that have made a difference, whether that is through our careers, our families or in our communities.
What has been the highlight of your career?
The Dressing Room turns 18 this year, so recognising the longevity of my business and the contribution it has made to many women's lives in terms of career development and the feel good factor of a great shopping experience has to be the highlight.
What has been your biggest business struggle?
There have been so many along the way, but my biggest struggle is probably more of a personal one which is finding my switch off button - I just don't have one and sometimes this can take it's toll on me and those closest to me.
What made you want to start your own business?
It felt like a natural progression in my career. I had worked my way up the retail career ladder and the opportunity for change came along so I decided I would take the plunge and start my own venture. I am passionate about retail, fashion and styling so the idea for The Dressing was born from this.
What is your favourite part of running a small business?
There are many ups and downs of running a small business, but my highlights are certainly bringing the Dressing Room edit together and the reaction that we get from customers when they see the new collections hit the shopfloor or online. I enjoy the variety that running my own business gives me, every day is very different!
What is the one piece of advice you would give to a budding small business owner?
Know who your target customer is, really understand who you are aiming at and put your all into delivering that promise. Bring your team on the journey with you, empower them to achieve their goals alongside yours and let them know what your aims and ambitions are so they can work with you to deliver this.
